Students Consulting for Nonprofit Organizations (SCNO) is an entirely student-run consulting organization on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, dedicated to providing pro bono aid to nonprofits in need. The group is made up of top student on campus, including Business, Engineering, and an array of Liberal Arts majors. These students are looking to put the skills they learn in class to good use, providing comprehensive and modern solutions to local nonprofit organization’s needs.
Started just last August, the organization has grown quickly from a starting cohort of nine members working on one project to over 50 student consultants. In the last year, five local organizations have participated as clients (to read more about these projects click this link).
SCNO is currently accepting client applications for the coming semester. The organization can assist in various capacities on projects, including but not limited to: Marketing, Fundraising and Capital Allocation, Finance and Accounting, Human Resource Management, Organizational Strategy, and Operational Management. Each project has a dedicated team and project manager who serves as the primary point of contact, and is completed over the course of one semester. The consulting is free, and the only requirements are that there is Board involvement or approval, and that you remain dedicated to participating in the project. If your organization is interested in being selected as a client for SCNO, or you would like more information, visit their website and fill out the application under the services tab.
Once SCNO’s leadership team has reviewed your application, a member of the organization will reach out to you with next steps. If you have questions, feel free to contact Jordy McNamara, President of SCNO, at president@illiniscno.org or their faculty advisor, Prof. Michelle Shumate at shumate@illinois.edu.
