Name:
TAP In Leadership Academy
Description:
During the after school program, TAP In serves thirty scholars from community middle and high schools. A minimum of sixty college students from University groups are recruited to serve as mentor tutors in addition to our staff. The after-school program operates Monday thru Friday from 2:30pm to 7pm. TAP In’s goal is to provide supplemental support to families by providing scholars 2:1 mentee/mentor tutoring in the areas of math, science, and language. Curriculum is derived from Illinois State Standards approved 4-H modules and I-STEM. TAP In believes in holistic learning. Therefore, as a way of assisting families in providing healthy meals to the scholars we serve as well as a small population of the community, we offer a monthly food give-a-way initiative, ICARE. ICARE also hosts by- monthly parent workshops. These workshops are designed to educate, equip and empower parents with additional tips and tools for raising responsible, self-sufficient scholars in the 21st century. TAP In Leadership Academy's Summer Enrichment Program is a multicultural six-week program for scholars ages 9 to 11. Students embark on higher education before reaching middle school. Each week, scholars explore a different culture/world area through hands-on learning facilitated by University instructors. Scholars have the opportunity to listen to and participate in interactive activities offered by guest speakers. Scholars also travel on field studies on campus and in the community.

Mission Statement:
The mission of TAP In Leadership Academy is to educate, equip, and empower youth leaders living in marginalized, urban communities to enhance educational achievement, self-esteem, and cultural awareness. By providing all students with an equitable opportunity for intellectual, social, and emotional growth, it is our long-term goal that all of our scholars are admitted to a four-year college or university. Our vision is to see scholars become self sufficient, contributing leaders in their families, their communities, and the world.
