Name:
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Garden Foundation
Description:
Lincoln Memorial Garden represents the native landscape Abraham Lincoln would have known growing up in the Midwest. Designed in the 1930s by internationally known landscape architect Jens Jensen, this unique 100-acre site on the shores of Lake Springfield features six miles of trails, footbridges, a pond, eight stone council rings, and dozens of wooden benches inscribed with quotations from Lincoln. The woodland and prairie garden welcomes thousands of visitors year round to learn about nature and enjoy the wildflowers, trees and wildlife. A staff educator focuses on environmental education for schoolchildren. The Garden depends on memberships and donations; entrance is free.

Mission Statement:
MISSION: "To honor the memory of Abraham Lincoln by providing a place where young and old alike can enjoy nature in all seasons, learn to be stewards of the environment, and discover the relationship among native plants, wildlife, water, soil and sunlight in an atmosphere of peace and beauty." PURPOSE: "The purpose of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Garden Foundation is to manage and fund the preservation, protection, maintenance and improvement of the woodland and prairie garden established as a living memorial to Abraham Lincoln, in keeping with Jens Jensen's design philsophy; and to provide opportunities for the appreciation of nature and for environmental education for all persons."
