The
Illinois Green Business Association helps businesses realize the environmental and economic benefits of green practice in the state of Illinois. The IGBA’s green business certification program offers flexibility and a customized plan that fits individual business’ needs. The tangible benefits of IGBA’s Green Business Certification program to participating businesses includes: reduced energy, water and resource consumption; increased PR; and improved employee morale as well as community engagement and business leadership. The program shows tangible, credible results for resource and cost reductions and de-bunks any green-washing claims by requiring that each green practice be verified. It also provides the consumer with a transparent process of understanding what a green business is and how green management practices can be applied. Through our work, we hope to change the mindsets of people on green and sustainable practices to help them understand why sustainability is important and why we should start being more sustainable today.
The Illinois Green Business Association (IGBA) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization based in Champaign, IL, that assists businesses to reduce their energy and resource consumption by participating in a green business certification.

We have been hard at work at the IGBA to not only serve businesses, but engage community members in sustainability as well. TEN Champaign-Urbana businesses have become certified, with 35 in process right now.
Finally, on the third Tuesday of every month, the IGBA holds Central Illinois Green Business Networking events. This month's event will be held in Champaign, IL, at IndiGo Artists Co-Op on August 23rd from 5:30-7pm. Come learn from other sustainability-minded community members, enjoy free appetizers, and hear from a community group and a certified business!
We're beginning to see momentum with businesses being interested in certification, and we look forward to continuing our mission of reducing resource use in the commercial sector.
